Iguana

This does not look like a green iguana, a common species kept as a pet in Britain. For one, the colour is too grey and drab. Also lack of spikes down the back. In addition the head shape appears wrong.

I'm not familiar with the lizards found in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, however, I think this is a spiny-tailed iguana (Ctenosaura similis).
