Description:

Whatever these are, they were on the bed of a shallow pool. I have no idea what they are.

Might be toad spawn??

Toad spawn is laid in long strings, but this looks a bit odd. Maybe it's already hatched? Or maybe something else altogether.

A good thought -

but this seems to consist of a paired strand, whereas toad-spawn is single-stranded. Also, toads prefer (when they can find them) larger pools.
Eggs of some kind is the most likely explanation; but, like Simon, I have no idea of what.
