Garden Spider (24-09-2009)
Description:

One of many garden spiders in my daughter's garden. This was one of the biggest. Its size is not apparent in the photograph but I would say it was at least 10mm in length. The BBC Science and Nature website suggests that males are 4-8mm., so this is probably a female

female

I'd agree that this is a female, the males have narrower abdomens as well as being smaller.
