Description:

Spotted this beautiful little beetle (about 5mm long) zooming about on a reed stem at my local nature reserve. Never seen one before but I'm pretty sure its a water ladybird in its spring/summer colouration. They are paler during autumn. It's also known as the 19-Spot Ladybird although the number of slots on the elytra may vary between 15 and 21. This has 19 spots if you count the two spots each side that have blended together as seperate?
