Very small caterpillar got caught on my top when he was hanging from a thread from a tree. any ideas?

but this behaviour is typical of the tortrix moth group. They feed on the leaves, but when a flock of birds comes foraging, they "bale out" on silk threads until the danger is past.
Other moth larvae do the same - some of the geometrids, for example, but the small size suggests the smaller tortrix type.
