This was difficult to photograph and I do not really have any idea what it might be. From its shape it could be a Common Beech.

get to.I guess you don't remember pre Dutch Elm Disease.Brighton & Kew come to mind for mature trees.Our landscapes changed dramatically.Here we have some mature trees left plus hedges but dry weather has not helped.We have lost a smallish Elm in the last year & I shall miss it & hearing & seeing Greenfinches taking the seeds.
