Species with which Meadow Foxtail (Alopecurus pratensis) interacts

Chalkie's picture

Just checked another book

Timothy awns (whiskery bits) are only 1-2mm and 2 per spikelet, and Foxtail awns are 3-5mm, one per spikelet and this grass clearly does have quite long awns, so I'm pretty sure it is Alopecurus, even if less sure about the precise species. To help me try and remember which is the earliest one I'm going to try remembering to say 'Allo' to the early one - Alopecurus. Probably won't work though.
