Thanks for the id Peter. I wasn't sure if it would be a UK species or not. From what you say the EOL distribution map seems a bit inaccurate.

EOL Map

This is certainly an immature male Red-veined Darter.

The EOL distribution map seems to be based on just very limited number of records that have been passed on to them directly. It would seem more sensible to me for them to highlight the known ranges of species, as well as giving the sites of submitted records.
The species is widely distributed throughout Africa, southern Europe, and south-west Asia, and reaches more northern parts of Europe (except Scandinavia) in lower numbers most years.
