Description:

I made my first exploratory trip to Thursley Common NR yesterday where Large Red Damselflies were emerging. Freshly emerged Odonata are tricky to identify before their colour has formed. One completely colourless individual landed on my cheek before deciding that a tree would be safer and more appropriate.
This one has been out a little while, though, and is beginning to develop its characteristic dark-banded red abdomen.
