Plumipes is the commoner

Apols for error! Anthophora plumipes is in fact the commoner. A. retusa is endangered and now has a restricted distribution.

plumipes v. retusa

Plumipes emerges earlier (in Salisbury the first males emerged on 25 Feb. this year). Males of A. retusa are out right now, but the species only occurs in a handful of sites in UK. Go to Guernsey or Sark (especially) and you'll find them with ease
