Old coppice in New Forest

An old coppice found in wet woodland within the New Forest. At that difficult stage where the leaves have emerged but are not fully developed. The new leaves are well veined and the veins are very prominent on the underside. Bark is fairly rugged.

Thanks for identifying and confirming this. I should have known what it was but Alder didn't come into my mind because of the size of the tree - it is almost 6m round the base.
