Whats the difference between Motacilla flava and Motacilla flava subsp. flavissima
flavissima is just the British subspecies.
The male, like your photo here, has bright yellow underparts right up to and including the throat, and also a yellow supercilium. It is yellowy-green on the head and back, otherwise. That contrasts with the other subspecies of continental Europe, which have various patterns of black, grey and white on their heads.

Was the uncertainty about the subspecies rather than whether or not it was a yellow wagtail?
As a relative novice I would not have hesitated to identify it as a yellow wagtail and wouldn't have even considered the subspecies.
If it is possibly not a yellow wagtail - then I am going to doubt myself even more every time I make an identification!
Yes, I just did not know about the different subspecies. don't think anyone was questioning whether or not it was a yellow wagtail.
Absolutely stunning bird! I'm glad that the uncertainty was around the subspecies!
