doing some litter picking with my local conservation group and found these huge, obviously non native, snails in the water, they were both dead. we assumed they were dumped from a fishtank but if anyone can identify them it would be nice to know what they are.

Poor things

As Tiggrx says these are land snails and are prolific breeders. It makes me very sad and angry that someone would just dump their pets like that and of course it is illegal to release non-native animals into the wild. Although these snails would not survive a British winter they are a serious pest in many countries were they have been introduced, deliberately and accidentally.
