Gives a very bumblebee like impression in flight.

The hairiness of the mid leg is a character of the males rather than the females. An easier character to separate the males is the presence of a pygidium (flattened spade like T7)in the male of retusa. This is absent in plumipes males.
The female character for separation is in the colour of the hind tibial spurs (need to check my keys to remind me of which is which!)
Let me know what that characteristic is when you have found out. Hopefully from the high res versions of the images I have here I will be able to check the feature.
