Would a sample help if it is still there,as it's is next to the track I drive up.I too was not sure of the stem,it was attatched to the log but right at the base,I tried to use my computer microscope and could only get that of the pores but they were not visable to the naked eye will at least not mine.
P melanopus should have clamp conections so I might be able to confirm with a full fruitbody.
