Whatever you have ...

I have one too!

See http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/128481

But yours benefits from a much better photograph. Let's hope someone knows what it may be.

Doing a little looking around

Doing a little looking around on Google, etc it does look a little like Orchesella villosa. Going on the scanned print at: http://www.earthlife.net/insects/images/collembo/col13.jpg
Not sure how many Springtail experts there are in the UK... Fingers crossed we will get a good ID.

Earthlife

Not a site I have been to before. Once you manage to avoid the pop-up advertisements it looks to be an informative site. Orchesella villosa seems a good match from the scanned print, but the photographs are a little less conclusive - none that I looked at really show the pattern and the springtail seems to be very hairy.

Thank you for investigating further.

I had an email from Peter

I had an email from Peter Shaw, a Springtail expert telling me that this is Orchesella villosa. A lucky first Springtail ID it seems.
