beetle?

This is actually some kind of water bug - Hemiptera not a beetle - Coleoptera. The pictures show the forewings overlap, whereas in water beetles, they meet together in a straight line along the mid-line of the back. Best, David

Thank you both for your comments, it does look like a saucer bug as shown in the observation above so many thanks - I still have my L-Plates on for this sort of thing!
