Strange looking fly - originally thought it was a bee, but seems to resemble the one on the iSpot link to Saving Species
No interactions present.
The black band along the leading edge of the wing is the key to B. major. Other beeflies (of which we have several species) have no or different patterns.

Thanks for the ID - not a group I'm familiar with at all. Have seen one or two of these on the violets in our woodland
