Identification keys for craneflies

The Dipterists Forum have just made available a set of draft keys to craneflies:

These are fairly technical keys, but for some of the larger species at least they are useable with a good hand lens; a microscope is needed for some of the smaller ones.

If you're looking for a place to start, I'd suggest the key to "Tipula plus sub-genera", which includes most of the larger species that are thought of as 'daddy-long-legs'.

And if you get interested in craneflies (or any other type of fly!) I'd strongly recommend becoming a member of the Dipterists Forum, which organises events, training workshops, field meetings, bulletins and newsletters, as well as coordinating the activiteis of the various Diptera recording schemes.
