Debris found in rat trap

This is what I found when I opened up a rat trap. The trap had contained neosorexa and I wanted to know if the rats were storing the food/poison by burying it, or burying it to stop other rats from eating the poison.

Species interactions

No interactions present.

An interesting thought -

Research in the USA has shown that humans have effectively been breeding coyotes Canis latrans for intelligence for decades. The hunting/control methods have weeded out the less brainy animals, favouring the brighter ones who live on to breed.
I wouldn't be surprised if modern pest control methods are doing the same for rats.

Debris in trap

Ocassionally I have found this activity in longworth traps, and on discussion have put it down to storing a food supply.
