Possible dragonfly nymph

Description:

About 5 inches long, glutinous. Looked as if it had been partially eaten. Seemed to have compound eyes. Found near a pond where I have seen nymphs before

5 inches long?

It's not possible to confirm, or comment on, the possibility of this being a dragonfly nymph/larva from your decription I'm afraid - except to say that 5 inches would be far too large (5-6cm is nearer the maximum size for dragonfly larva in the UK).

Dragonfly nymph

Thank you, Roy, for your comment. The organism was approx 5 inches so clearly it cannot be a dragonfly nymph. Any other suggestions?
