A small point, but worth knowing, is that the scientific name for animals and plants consists of two parts.
The first part is the generic name, giving the genus to which the specimen belongs. That part has a capital letter.
The second part is the specific name and that identifies the specimen to a particular species within that genus. That does not have a capital letter, though.
