Black Fungi

Small black cup shaped fungus on branch of a tree. A few scattered along the same branch.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Clearly quite an old specimen

The younger ones are brown and flexible.

Fungi are difficult -

even when fresh! Fortunately, some iSpotters are very good at interrogating them - I doubt I'd have recognised this one without being pointed in the right direction.

Unlike a lot of fungi this

Unlike a lot of fungi this species dries out to look like this but it is not dead and when it next rains it will regain is gelatinous texture.
