I was having a look at my book last night and wondered if this is ssp borealis, it seems that its the only subspecies in Wales, if so it's Near threatened!

arctica subspecies are iffy

I would have to examine actual material before I would name this to subspecies, even if I were willing to do so.

In fact I do not think that subspecific splitting of E. arctica works, and if it did, then I would take the view that subsp. arctica also comes as far south as Wales, and quite a lot of Welsh populations are intermediate.

However, I plan a revised treatment of this group.
