Common Toad

Observed: 4th March 2011 By: ChamblyChambly’s reputation in Amphibians and Reptiles
Common Toad
Description:

One of hundreds of frogs and toads presumably emerging from hibernation on the first sunny day of spring.
There seemed to be lots of frog and toad shaped indents right beside the path just under a few birch leaves. Do they hibernate in such exposed places?

Amphibians will hibernate -

under piles of leaves, although this would seem less than ideal. Anywhere they can shelter will do, in fact: under logs, in cellars, in rubble piles, even at the bottom of ponds, apparently.
