Description:

I found this beetle today crawling across the block paving playground at my school. I'm surprised to see it so early in the year, therefore if anyone would like to comment on this, then please do. I'm undecided as to its identification. Is it a Dor Beetle (Geotrupes stercorarius) or a female Minotaur Beetle (Typhaeus typhoeus)?

Early Beetle?

Minotaur Beetles are active over the winter months, though you may see little of them over the coldest part of the winter, so finding one in early March is not unusual.
