Speckled Wood

Ecological note: The Speckled Wood butterfly normally feeds on honeydew but I gather it will feed on nectar when honeydew is scarce - and aphid activity presumably low. Seeing it on flowers in spring and autumn is not too surprising but if that were to happen in summer, it might indicate that aphids are being depleted by particularly active predation.
