It is very difficult to tell from this picture, the animal was obviously distressed after its encounter with a cat. Small ears and eyes indicate it is a vole. It could be the wet fur but it looks to be a young one. The tail, was it naturally short or could it have been bitten by the cat? Cats aften bite the tails off their 'play things'. If it was a short, whole tail then it would be a short-tailed field vole.

Well when I was holding it I didn't observe any blood coming from it's tail, which did appear to be whole and was rounded.
