The second plant specimen looks like common honeysuckle Lonica periclymenum.

wow. this really looks like a cotoneaster. how do you tell them apart?

Lonceria is a dense bush and has a totally different growing habit to cotoneaster,it has golden yellow leaves if kept pruned but if left they revert to a darker green,I have a few in my garden but keep them pruned or they become very straggly.
...that different to some Cotoneasters in habit. Also, the golden one in your garden is a cultivar called 'Baggesen's Gold'. The straight species is always dark green apart from when the new leaves appear and are a little paler.
