3 of these bumble bees came to my mahonia today first bumbles I have seen this year,freshly minted by the look of them.Can anyone id species please ?

Syrphus - please clarify what you mean by "black S at the end of the collar"
If you look at the LH picture, you will see the faint outline of a dark line through the yellow, a little above the end, in the shape of an 'S'. That is a feature of B. cryptarum, but the taxonomy of the B. lucorum group is complex and so far unresolved, so few people will make definite statements about morphological characters and species limits.

Just to confirm - is the "S" is in the yellow band between the wing and the front leg?
It starts at the base of the wing and runs through the yellow collar.
