Rhizostoma octopus

Unlike other jellyfish, the Barrel Jellyfish does not sting its prey but has lots of mouth openings on the lobes of its four pairs of "arms", with plankton (its food - microscopic organisms) drawn into them with currents of water. The males tend to be bluish in colour the females reddish/brown. It is thought that some individuals overwinter in deep water - this is likely to be the case with any large specimens found at this time of year.
