Description:

A mould(?) growing on a piece of orange peel in the top of a compost bin, covered with a plastic lid. In the 2nd picture, the lens has a diameter of 2.5cm. None of the other material visible (a banana skin and some hay) were affected.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Phycomyces

Thanks for the ID - having followed it up, I remember now where I have seen this type of fungus before. Orange peel in a compost bin is a far nicer prospect.
