A single specimen of a leaf beetle beaten from scrub on a sunny chalk hillside. Handed to me for ID at a recent Coleopterists meeting.
No interactions present.
This will be written up for 'The Coleopterist'. For more on the ID process to date, look here:
Congratulations Dave....a rewrite of the key?
Cheers :) Fortunately the key works well to genus Smaragdina, so adding this sp. will be easy as it is separated from affinis by the lack of a pronotal band. Still, I'm not expecting many ID agreements on this one!
Following testing feedback, there are many other more major aspects of the key being rewritten (the easy amendments are mostly done)... Longitarsus is proving tricky (and also has a new species, L. symphyti), though that's a genus where problems are not unexpected...
Good detective work Dave!
