Last Friday, when it was very windy, I came across a Water Rail that was being bothered by a Magpie. I didn't see the Magpie actually touch the smaller bird but it was definitely approaching the Rail in a menacing way especially when the Rail was backed up against the brick wall. Had I not been approaching I think it would have been attacked; instead the Rail found an escape route and ran off.
The Rail had presumably been blown off course from the nearby ( about 200m away) reedbeds where I know they live.
Have you seen other unlikely species being approached or attacked by Magpies?
