2.2cm length x 1.2cm width. Small orange yellow bivalve with lots of fine rays and concentric ridges. Discovered on a sandy beach.
No interactions present.
Compare moerella donacina, http://www.habitas.org.uk/marinelife/photo.asp?item=120934c
& donax vittatus, http://www.marlin.ac.uk/speciesinformation.php?speciesID=3188
Yes, as you say there must be some confusion with the names as the shells are very distinct.
Yeah Chris they are quite different, the Donax vittatus I know well from one local sandy beach, the Moerella donacina I'm pretty sure Ive seen there also but less frequently, have seen it before without question on abeach somewhere.
The glossy purple interior of D. vittatus is hard not to admire but difficult to capture in a photo as good as it is in the hand. Must go out and find some soon to share with you on here.
No one has mentioned the predation drill-hole. I am beginning to form a post of such things, Can anyone ID the likely predator in this case?
This one is perfectly round and recessed - not all are

I'm most grateful Martin - so must get down to it.
Now named Euspira catena http://www.conchsoc.org/spAccount/euspira-catena it seems as though it occurs in my Home County, away from which I am....
I wonder if you could help me with a problem to do with computer bugs, Martin ( the way lists work). when you've added a comment to an observation, does the 'other observation carousel' disappear or not?
then I will take a look at the Carousel.
Having done that the Carousel was there; also after reloading it was there.
Hope that helps.
Many thanks for your help Martin; I've found the carousel to remain in all the lists I use (community, YouriSpot,Marine,& marine Habitats) & also in the group list, when it's working (I've never used it till recently). Unlike the others, in the group list you can immediately after commenting move to the next in the list via'next' ie the navigation works.
The problem was, when Marksteer reported it in forum as not working, the expert, in "that is how iSpot works" explained comment files as "showing the whole observation, but again, no navigation and no other observations carousel" giving http://www.ispotnature.org/node/438607#comment-179585 as example (so according to him marksteer couldn't have found the navigation as it was never there!)
However I've found the group list to mostly 'work' after adding comments but occasionally fail.
So you're reply's reassured me it's not just my computer, & Marsteer's confirmed it's the method he uses all the time ( http://www.ispotnature.org/node/452854#comment-319650 ), so it must be a recent bug, though an elusive one.
