Description:

I noticed this moth on my living room window during summer / autumn 2010 (ignore date observed, it wouldn't let me select a more general date). It was about an inch long (25mm) and stayed on my window all day. Please excuse quality of picture.

It's either Yellow-Tail or

It's either Yellow-Tail or Brown-Tail - I would strongly favour YT on the grounds of commonness, and the faint suspicion of yellow in the shot from below, but the pictures don't show enough to be sure either way

Probably Yellow-tail

I agree its most likely to be Yellow-tail as in the full size photo you can just see a yellow suffusion on the end of the abdomen and Brown-tail "should" show a darker area there. I would not be sure though just from these photos - as others have said you cant really see the diagnostic features but at least you know which family of moths to look at. Maybe this summer you will find one again so then try and get a closer in focus photo of the underside of the body.
