Salmacia divisa

Could it be Tachina fera?

Matt Smith's picture

Species name

It is indeed Tachina fera, could I suggest next time entering a revision rather than just a comment, then people can "agree" or "disagree" - stuff down here in the comments often gets missed.

A quick Google of images of "Salmacia divisa" suggests there are a number of photos of Tachina fera that have been wrongly ID'd as "Salmacia" that appear at the top of the search list, a classic case of unintentional ID errors on the internet propagating further errors downstream.

For a look at a similar species to illistrate my comment about the width of the head see http://tachinidae.org.uk/photos/Gonia%20capitata%20-%20BENHS%2003.jpg, Gonia (= Salmacia) divisa is a very rare species in the UK and we don't have any pictures of it in the Recording Scheme.
