These are a tricky group as they often hybridise, but someone more knowledgeable will hopefully get you further than me!

There is no doubt it is a marsh orchid (erect sepals, stout spur) or a hybrid of one. I would guess it is in whole or part D. purpurella. The flowers are on the pale side for purpurella, and the spike has just a hint of the vigour you often get in the hybrids, but, as Sarah suggests, this is not a genus for the faint of heart.

The lip looks more like D. praetermissa to me. D purpurella should be less lobed. Probably a hybrid anyway!

The site is more than a bit too far north for praetermissa, which is why I went for purpurella as the main contributor.

Not a pure D. purpurella I think. The shape of the lip not quite right, but not far off. It has hybrid stamped on it I think. Perhaps the cross with D. fuchsii, but only a little - so maybe a back cross into D. purpurella. One would want to have a scout around and see what variation there was locally - perhaps a hybrid swarm?

Thank you for your opinions. A county recorder I spoke to also considered it was a hybrid.
