Thanks for the ID Anthony. Can you say what the determining features were please? It is a shame that the bird was not facing forward but I liked the picture!
It's an interesting picture. I've identified this as a Dunnock (Prunella modularis), because the bold streaking appears to be more extensive than would be the case in a House Sparrow (Passer domesticus). Also, the Dunnock's white 'wing-bar', is less clearly defined than the white wing-bar of both male and female House Sparrows.
