Typical Black necked Grebe in Winter plumage. Powder puff tail, fine bill with slightly upturned appearance and crown peaking above the eye with steep forehead

Definitely Black-necked.

Some of the Black-necked Grebes that I see have dull eyes (like this one).
I've wondered whether some 1st winters might take longer than most to develop the red eye colour (or perhaps some individuals always have duller eyes?).
