This "patch" measures about 4cms across, the bottom of the first picture shows the white state when presumably dead. It grows over crustose lichens and up through foliose lichens. It is growing on hazel at the edge of a wood in the shade.

Metzegeria furcata

Thank you for the help. I thought it might be but it is'nt forked at the end of it's "leaves". The second picture is of the same patch, as far as I can remember, after a night of heavy rain.

M furcata...

it looks fine for M furcata to me. any more forking at the tips and growing on a tree would mean it was M fruticulosa or similar.
