isn't this a second stage Sheild Bug ? get losts of them in my garden
Somewhere around second instar, by the look of it - there are good numbers overwintering under tree bark, etc. Strictly speaking this is a nymph, rather than a larvae, as bugs are hemimetabolous, with no pupal stage.
