What are the purple/brown flakes adhering to the upper side of the stick surrounding the fungus? Are they flakes of bark, lichen or could they be another fungi?? It looks like it could be Peniophora species, a crust fungi that T.mesenterica parasitises.
It's unlikey to be Dacrymyces chrysospermus. That's very rare and I believe occurs Summer to Early Autumn, whereas T.mesenterica occurs all year round.
That was the bark. It was under a pine tree.
