I agree with your id. Not a species I'm familiar with. Obviously much larger than my initial stab at identification of July Highflyer. Is difficult to judge size without a scale.

Try using "sugar" during late July and August. If the moth is in your area, then this seems a better bet for seeing it than using a light. See http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/72880
