For some reason bracket fungi

For some reason bracket fungi are rather tricky to ID, at least I find them tricky so don't take too much notice of my revision of your ID! Perhaps this is because they don't have many obvious features to describe e.g. this one has no gills and is a similar colour to various other species.
A few of the brackets are fairly easy to ID but if you want to start off then try some of the more conventional 'mushroom' type fungi with a stem and cap - then look to see if they have gills or pores, what colour they are, what size, if they smell of anything in particular, what they are growing on etc.
