Description:

These curly brown chaps emerged from under about 4 inches of snow, at the base of a roadside laburnam tree.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

One of the defining

One of the defining characteristics of P aurivella is its sticky cap. Was this sticky?

Hmmmmmm................

Hmmmmmmmmmm, hard to call this one, as fungi appears to have been a bit frost damaged. At a guess I would say this is P.squarrosa, as I believe the cap appears more hairy (larger scales) than P.aurivella, as shown in your photo.
