i have lived here for 17 years and this is the first time that i have seen a redwing in the garden.
It's been another good year for seeing them in gardens due to the cold and shortage of food elsewhere. Put out some bruised apples and that'll keep them happy.

Interesting - where I live (North West London) it has been generally a poor year for the winter thrushes, numbers are much down on what I would expect in a typical winter. Obviously this is not the experience everywhere which is interesting to know.
Last year I had a lovely visit from a large flock of Fieldfare with a few Redwings thrown in for good measure. They feasted on a tree (not sure which) festooned with berries. I've given up this year as all the berries have been scoffed already by a number (c 8) of squabbling blackbirds that have been in the garden for at least a month now, presumably migrants, though they may be local migrants.
I'm in South London
