Bird shaped like a moorhen or coot, but grey in colour and without the distinctive beak colourings of with of those species.

White stripe = Moorhen.

The white stripe (and white undertail patches) on an otherwise very plain grey-brown body shows that this is a Moorhen.

Young Moorhens don't get the distinctive red and yellow beak until they are mature, so individuals in their first winter lack this and have a dark bill.
