Natural Ice Crystals

Observed: 9th December 2010 By: Roger Gilbert

Description:

I've put this in other organisms although not one. These had grown on top of Brambles knocked down by snow, there was freezing fog for a couple of days and I think it slowly froze forming these crystals. These remind me of Copper Sulphate crystals grown with my schoolboy chemistry set. If you look at the full size image you can see growth striations on some of the crystals.

Fascinating!

How beautiful, I shall have to look at snow more carefully now!
