Red spotty fly

Description:

Lots of this red spotty 'flies' were seen by myself and friends at Crawton, Aberdeenshire. Have never seen them before this summer and only saw them by the sea on sandy, grassy areas.

If you search iSpot -

or indeed Google for them, you'll find that there are some related species to these Burnet moths.
The 6-Spot is less common in Scotland than it is further south. It tends to occur more in coastal areas, perhaps because of the milder climate.
